MSc in Agricultural Economics
Admission Criteria
Applicants must have Bachelor of Science in degree in Agricultural Economics. For other applicants there must be the discretion of the Department Graduate Council per Senate Legislation (SGS Guideline). Prior to registration, applicants must take and pass the entrance qualification examination.
To be eligible for graduation all the MSc candidates in the intended program must fulfill the following requirements:
- Min. 30 Credit hours of course work, with not more than one ‘C’ grade.
- Six Credit hours of research work on which a thesis is prepared and defended.
- A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.00.
- Pass in thesis work and defense examination.

MSc in Agribusiness and Value Chain Management
Admission Criteria
- Candidates who apply for master’s degree in Agribusiness and Value Chain Management program must have bachelor degree from accredited higher learning institutions in or outside the country. Eligible candidates will be required to take and pass an entrance examination (written and/or oral) to be considered for admission. However, Results of entrance exam accounts 85%, CGPA accounts 15%, and gender 5%.
- Candidates with backgrounds from Agribusiness and value chain management and Agricultural economics can join without any compensatory course.
- Candidates with background in Rural Development and Agricultural Extension, Mathematics, Plant/Crop Science, Horticulture, and Animal Science should take the following compensatory courses with appropriate credit hours: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Agricultural Marketing, Econometrics and Value chain analysis and development as pre-master program to offset the deficiencies and seat for the entrance exam..
- Candidates with background in Economics, Statistics, Accounting, Business Management and Cooperatives should take the following compensatory courses: Animal production, Plant production, and Value chain analysis and development and additional courses upon the discretionary rights of the council of postgraduate studies.
- However, candidates with other related disciplines can join the program if they can audit deficient courses that will be decided by the receiving department, within maximum of one year.
Graduation Requirements
To be eligible for graduation all the MSc candidates in the intended program must fulfill the following requirements:
- Min. 32 Credit hours of course work including one elective course, with not more than one ‘C’ grade.
- No ‘F’, ‘NG’, or ‘I’ grade in any course taken.
- Six Credit hours of research work on which a thesis is prepared and defended.
- A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.00 (equivalent to B’s in all the courses taken).
- Pass in thesis work and defense examination and obtain at least “Satisfactory”
