Background
The College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences was established in 2009/10 Academic year with three departments (Plant Sciences, Natural Resources Management and Rural Development and Agricultural Extension) and with about 23 academic staff. The then faculty of agriculture has now demonstrated and demonstrating a steady growth in the academic and research affairs by expanding the undergraduate, postgraduate and mid-career programs along with research, community service and technology transfer tasks, emanated from the pre-identified thematic areas.
The college is situated in the beautiful Teda Campus which is located some 20 Km far from the historic city of Gondar. We provide intensive practical oriented teaching, research and community services activities through the support of our four farms that represent different agro-ecologies. These are, Teda campus farm, Shinta tree and horticulture nursery, Belessa Farm and Gorgora integrated horticulture farm. We conduct interdisciplinary researches in selected thematic areas and provide community outreach and technology transfer services almost in all agro-ecologies of the region.
Currently, the college is running eight undergraduate and 19 postgraduate programs (15 MSc and 4 PhD programs). In the 2021/22academic year, the college enrolled about 117 graduate (Msc) and 11 postgraduate (PhD) students.
