Background
The Department of Natural Resource Management (NaRM) was launched in 2010/11 Academic Year (AY) as one of the three pioneer Departments in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (former Faculty of Agriculture), University of Gondar (UoG). The department was established having five academic staffs and 53 undergraduate regular students enrolled in one program (B.Sc degree in Natural Resource Management). Similarly, M.Sc in Soil Science was launched as regular and extension program in 2014/15 AY. In addition, in 2016/17 AY, MSc program in Forest Management and Utilization (FoMU) and PhD program in Forest and livelihood are opened. The latter two programs are currently found under the department of General Forestry. Currently, department of NaRM has one graduate program (M.Sc. in Soil Science) and one undergraduate program (BSc in NaRM). Thirty two academic staffs and more than 264 graduate and undergraduate regular students are currently enrolled in the department. These multidisciplinary staffs have been engaged in undertaking different problem solving research and community service projects.
The Department is aimed to meet the following objectives:
- – To produce qualified and competent graduates in the field of Natural Resource Management with the required knowledge, skills and attitudes
- – To undertake different problem solving research and community service projects
- – To facilitate, promote and disseminate appropriate agricultural technologies
